Milan - Day 11, May 27, 2021

Covid test day today!  It was very challenging to make an appointment.  Appointments could only be made online and required an Italian Tax ID.  Social security or passport numbers were not a substitute.  We visited a medical clinic on two different days before one of the women at the front desk took pity on us and entered the visit details for us.  Then they text an SMS confirmation, which would not come to my US number, so we had to use Chiara's.  I keep reminding myself we are charting the course as tourism begins to reopen...

The only site available was located an hour cab ride outside of Milan, so we decided to tick the subway off our list.  We left extra early to account for the unexpected, but of course stopped for a croissant along the way!

As for the unexpected, I attempted to go a quicker route the Cardona Station, and ended up adding on at least 10 minutes to our walk.  Lily had issues getting her ticket in the machine, a man was trying to bum a Euro off of me, and we could see our red line starting to pull away.  Luckily the wait for the next one was short.  Unluckily, I didn't think to tell Lily to take her ticket back from the machine for getting off of the train.  The guard let us through anyway.  Whew!  From there, a 15 minute walk to the clinic.

We had 3-pages each of forms to fill out for our Covid test, all of which were available only in Italian.  Thankfully the attendant was very sweet and helpful walking us through.

The Covid test however was terrible!  The nurse took her work very seriously and spoke no English, but she did laugh along at us / with us as we howled and squirmed as we had the back of our throats thoroughly swabbed, and then had that same swab inserted into both nostrils to swab what felt like our brains.  A great deterrent for Covid travel!

Taking a moment to marvel at the architecture.  Beautiful stone work details even underneath the balconies.

We stopped at my beloved Panini Durini on our way home to have lunch on our patio.  I love this sandwich with ham, brie, and squash flowers.

Final day of laundry today before packing up for Paris...

Chiara, Massimo and Matilda came over for an appertivo and to get dinner on our street.  They brought along these beautiful pastries from L'lle Douce bakery, which sounds like "little douche", and of course makes my immature self giggle.  Anyway, the pastries were not only gorgeous, but delicious!

By the time we finished dinner it was 11 PM and so we said goodbyes quickly and went right to bed.
