Milano - Day 2, May 18, 2021 - Settling In

We slept hard.  I set an alarm to wake us up by 9 AM so that we could work on adjusting to the 6-hour time difference (only 1-hour less than Uganda).  I ended up getting up a little earlier and managed a run.  Excited to realize we are one block from the Tuesday / Saturday Mercato Viale Papiniano market that we visited the last time we stayed in Navigli.

Once back I got Lily up.  She was so excited to explore she had no problem getting up.  Plus the skylights in our room are set on a timers and automagically open when the light comes up.

We followed the recommendation of our house renter and tried the croissant place she recommended (Patticeria Cucchi).a  Sport on.  Lily also started her cappuccino habit.  She is too tall anyway :)

So incredible to see Milano through Lily's eyes.  She loves it every bit as much as I do.

We had a blast at the markets, starting in the clothing section, and ended up in the fresh produce section where bought cheese, meats, fruits and veggies for our lunch.  Lily prepared a beautiful charcuterie board for us.

Then we both set off for school.  Lily is online 2 PM - 9 PM each day and I am in the classroom 2:30 - 7:30 PM.  Not quite half of my students are in person and the others are online.  Below is my classroom view...

We went our for our second night of panini's.  These 9:30 dinners are a not uncommon here, but still a bit strange for me to be staying up until midnight!  This night we ate at the restaurant one block down from our place.

I never tire of this breathtaking architecture.

After dinner, it was decided that we needed crepes.  Lily Googled "best crepes" and mapped us there.  So lover her with this independence charting Milan.

This guy was so smiley and managing a million things at once.

We took our crepes to the gates by the Basilica San Lorenzo Maggiore we attended for mass years ago when here as a family.  It was drizzly, so we sat under the arches and people watched.

We walked by the wall of dolls, I first happened across on a run years ago before working with Cattolica.  The dolls represent women who have been abused.  A very powerful experience to be there in person with their stories.
