Florence - June 5

My running partner slept in today, so I headed out on my own.  Every morning I encounter brides getting photos in the quiet of the morning.

My cooking lesson with Michele began at 9:30.  We made croissants, almond biscotti, and custard.  Once the kids woke up, they helped a bit too.  A really relaxing and fun way to spend the morning!

1,000 layers of pastry as we fold, roll, and refrigerate over and over again.  I am even more perplexed on how patisseries charge only 1E for a croissant!

You then make a small slit in the bottom of the triangle, add filling if desired, and roll.  Perfection.

We applied an egg wash before baking.

Voila!  Our croissants are of course now in first place in the competition :)

By this point, it is close to 1, so we headed to the Mercato Centrale for some lunch.  Did we need lunch at this point?  No.  But we can't seem to stop eating!!!

These two cuties waiting for their sister.

After a bit of shopping - we headed to the art supply store and picked up sets of water colors.  We are all hooked!  The boys headed back and I took the girls shopping for outfits for Chiara and Massimo's wedding.  We took a quick detour to the Uffizi Gallery courtyard so Lily could pose with her report buddy from this year - Amerigo Vespucci.

The kids made dinner for us tonight!  Italian flag colored bow tie pasta and caprese, complemented with leftover pizza from Obica.  Delish!  Then we watched Under the Tuscan Sun together. :)
