Algarve to Cascais - Day 15, June 18

I started the day with "farewell yoga" instead of a run. It was a rainy morning. I think the beach was sad we were leaving.

We will miss eating meals here!

We drive the 3 hours to Lisbon in time for our 1 PM tile painting class :) We arrived a little early so stopped at this café for a coffee.

The tile studio.

The instructor Ana had books of designs for us to look through. You then traced it on tracking paper, then poked holes in it over a foam board so that you could rub the pin-pricked tracing paper with a graphite tool to transfer the design to the tile to paint. We all did this, except for Caden, who decided to freehand one! It was a really fun afternoon. We pick up the fired tiles Saturday.

Caden's...

We mostly painted in the traditional cobalt blue. Gia used a different blue and Sophia and I added a couple of other colors. These are photos of the pre-fired tiles.

We drove on to Belem to visit the original Pasteil de Nata shop where the monks and nuns sold their pastries after the revolution to make money to support themselves.

Caden is not a fan, so he opted for something else that was equally delicious.

We drove along the coast another 30 minutes to arrive at Airbnb in Cascais. This may be our favorite house yet - among many great ones this trip! Quaint little streets with cobblestones and marble, tile inlaid throughout the buildings, and bright facades draped in flowers. The house itself is 3 levels, not including a rooftop balcony.

The master suite is on the 3rd floor with it's own little sitting area. Just darling.

After we settled in we met our friends Brad and Sarah, and their daughter Jo, for dinner at Bites and Bubbles, a short walk from the house. They live in DC and Brad is also in for the same conference as Corey at Nova School of Business & Economics.

After dinner we walked around the square a bit. So many teenagers! The kids are loving it!
