Croatia - Day 14

We packed up, said farewell to our little Vinisce home, and were off!

We headed to the town of Stone to an Oyster Farm. You took a boat out to platform floating in the bay. We were treated to local candied almonds and orange people and some strong grappa! An idyllic setting.

We learned about oyster farming and the multiple stages each oyster goes through to make it to a plate! They can only survive in brackish water (a mix of fresh and salt water). The success rate for a baby oyster is only 30%. The oyster farmers place them into a net contraption so that they can secure to something more easily and evade predators. They ultimately get cemented together on ropes. It takes 3 years for the oyster to be ready for consumption. We have a much better understanding of why they are so expensive! 

We ate 28 oysters along with platter of anchovies and a big pot of mussels all harvested in this bay.

We next made our way back to Dubrovnik. Months before we made a reservation at 360, one of Croatia's only Michelin Star restaurants. Food and setting along the castle wall as the sunset was a perfect close to our travels.

The food was pure art starting with cocktails - paloma for me and a paper plane for Corey.  The meal then started and ended with small bites, complements of the chef.
